In 1847 the first Catholics came to Ludlow. In 1848 Father O'Reilly, who was stationed in Brattleboro, came to Ludlow saying Mass once every six weeks at the home of John Keating. In 1875 he said Mass at John Reed's home on South Hill where Catechism was taught and a wedding was solemnized. Soon after he built a church in Proctorsville where Catholics from Ludlow attended.
In 1976 Father McGlaughlin (donor of the stained glass window over the altar) was given charge of Mount Holly and Ludlow saying mass every four weeks. In the summer of 1876 land was purchased for $500 and a church was built in Ludlow. Martin Meeham, being the largest contributor, was assigned the first pew with Mass being said on the last Sunday of the year with three hundred people attending. The church edifice was erected for $7,000. The steeple has since been hit twice by lightning with damage the second time. The parsonage was built in 1893 by Father Houlihan.
In 1928 Father Patrick Barry was assigned to Ludlow. He organized Court Annunciation #1140 Catholic Daughters of America in 1929, which disbanded in the early 1990's. The building next to the church was remodeled and used as a community center. In 1944 Father William Hackett served as pastor until his death in 1969.
In 1999 the community center was torn down and a beautiful new parish hall was built connecting to the church. This new building was done under the guidance of Rev. Robert Richardson and is used for many parish functions.
